Hidden functionalities you didn’t know your phone has and how to take advantage of them

Once upon a time in a land far far away, when a document needed to be signed one would go to the printer, print the document, sign it. Then you would go to the scanner, send the document as an attachment to yourself, download it then send it back. Let’s not even talk about the days before when you’d have to walk to the post office and wait for days for everything to be concluded.

Thankfully, those days are gone. Now you can open the attachment with an app that comes standard with most smartphones, fill it and sign it within the app, save and send it back. All within minutes. This is just one of the ways that your phone can make your life easier in the modern age but some people don’t even know they have this power within the palm of their hands. Here are a few other hidden functionalities you may not know you have in your phone and here is how you can take advantage of them.

Added to the abovementioned convenience of being able to fill in and sign documents, you can even scan physical documents. Using your camera’s phone, you can easily scan, save and even send documents via email. For some Android phones, this feature can be found under the camera settings under “More” whereas for others, you may need to simply download an app from the phone’s app store. With the iPhone, you can head over to the notes app to do this, more details here

Safety

Should you ever find yourself in an emergency situation, rather than scramble to dial the emergency numbers, smartphones now give you the ability to set specific keys that automatically make the call for you. According to news site Business Insider, you can set emergency SOS buttons on your iPhone. And this can be as pressing the home button with the volume button at the same time, or pressing the home button five times. With Android, there is no set feature that covers all phones but different phones have their own special settings you can find and ensure they function and help you get the help you need.

Entertainment

For those of us who like to multi-task, did you know you can split the screen on your phone to show you more than one app? For certain apps such as Netflix that may not initially allow you to split the screen, you can just go to developer settings and change them to allow it. Now you’ll be able to watch your favourite shows while also doing other things.

The iPhone also has split-screen functionality and tech news website Moby Geek explains how you can activate it.
